A Shepard Fairey weekend

Manifest Hope opened this weekend and you should seriously get over there (3333 M Street NW) to take a look. You can see work by some of DC's best artists like DECOY alongside arty legends like Ron English. See above super cute picture of these two at the Manifest Hope opening party.

If you go to Manifest Hope, then you will also get to see Lisa Marie Thalhammer's awesome portrait of Michelle Obama, the only one in the show.

The whole show has a palpable excitement about it. As Kelly Rand reports from DCist:
Reflecting on the happenings over the past year, Fairey said, "No one could have quantified the role that art plays. It makes you believe that the world can be a better place." Being surrounded by the numerous images that reflect hope and a positive attitude, his words are easy to believe.

The National Portrait Gallery unveiled the latest addition to its collection yesterday morning: Shepard Fairey's iconic image of Barack Obama. The NPG was able to acquire this important portrait through the generosity of Heather and Tony Podesta on behalf of his late mother Mary K. Podesta and with guidance from Irvine Contemporary.

Yosi Sargent - the mastermind behind Manifest Hope. Watch out for this guy. I hear he's moving to Washington and I have a feeling he's going to be making a big impact. Awesome!
