Contemporary art in the White House

In the Huffington Post, Jonathan Melber advises the Obamas to get rid of the decorative plates the Bushes left behind and hang contemporary art in the White House. Excellent advice. More excellently is that he advises the Obamas to take a look at some local galleries! Yay! I think something like Kate McGraw's work above would look awesome in the Blue Room.
Obama wouldn't have to travel far to look for ideas of what to get. The Smithsonian's Sackler Gallery, for example, is currently showing Anish Kapoor's beautiful, undulating mirrored walls. Petah Coyne's delicate wax sculptures hang in the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, which is about to open its 2009 senior thesis exhibition, presenting the latest generation of newly minted BFAs (some of whom, I'd bet, called battleground states for Obama during the campaign). Conner Contemporary Art and curator's office boast two of the best contemporary programs in the city. And the Washington Project for the Arts promotes the work of talented artists throughout the DC area.
