Wreckfest wrap up

The Arlington Arts Center reports that at least 780 people came through Wreckfest@Tiffany's last Friday night. Wow.

The day began with Tim Conlon and his crew (REI21, RAMS, the SOVIET) and foreman Richard Gould building a freestanding 20' x 8' wall on the front lawn of the Arlington Arts Center. The guys then wrote on the wall all afternoon and into the evening. (You can see the pieces they created at this event on Saturday night.)

I spoke with numerous people who had never been to an art gallery, much less the Arlington Arts Center, most of them young people who simply came to see graffiti in action. Maybe the majority of them will never come back. But some of them will and that's excellent. Huge kudos to the Arlington Arts Center for hosting this event!

It was standing room only during the panel discussion. This picture was taken just as the panel got underway. Within a few minutes, so many people had crowded into the room that latecomers flowed into the hallway straining to hear the lively conversation about graffiti as art and hip hop's influence on art and culture. Thank you so much again to our expert panelists: Jobyl Boone, Guest Curator at the National Portrait Gallery; Tia Powell Harris, who teaches at the Duke Ellington School; Susan Smith-Pinello, artist; Tim Conlon, artist; and Adrian Loving, artist, DJ, arts visionary, and all around awesome friend.

Invisible Flow rocked the night with excellent music.

Philissa Williams of Thembe Fashions gave us a peek at some of her latest designs.

The bboys in action! Some bgirls showed their moves too. They were all awesome!

The guys painted new trains for the event. A few remain, so if you're interested in buying one, get in touch with me.

We also have a few official limited edition Wreckfest t-shirts leftover. All XL and 2XL. Let me know if you want one of those too. Two for $10! And you get some sample CDs with the deal. What a deal!

Thanks sooooo much to Scion for supporting this event. Yay!
